Warning: Rant Ahead

ok, it's official - commercial music just MAKES ME CRANKY
Paris Hilton should never be near a microphone. ever. (actually i'm struggling to come up with something she should be allowed to do...)
This morning i heard her cover of a Rod Stewart song. oh my. there aren't even enough words. pain. oh my.
AND THEN i heard Ronan Keating do a cover of Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. that just pissed me off. Iris is one of my all time ALL TIME favourite songs, for so many reasons. and it should not be touched by anyone. ESPECIALLY NOT SOMEONE WHO USED TO BE IN A BOYBAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and don't get me started on Fergie, and her London Bridge song. after being trained in singing and having the importance of ends of words practically beaten into me, hearing that song just pains me - mayyy, tayyy and fayyyy ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUIONS for mace, taste and face. oh my word.
even as i'm typing this my fingers are tense and i'm making growling sounds.
ARGH!
i normally love the radio, and i like nova in the morning on the way to work, but at the moment IT JUST HURTS!

rant done.

for now.

Top 3 for Tuesday

short and sweet post - my top 3 reasons why today was cool.
in no particular order.
- dissolving into giggles at work with kate, and not really remembering why...
- getting home and having the inexplicable need to bake - hence my sister's biblestudy enjoyed a batch of triple chocolate peanut butter cookies.
- finding a petrol voucher that got me 20c off a litre - oh yeah.
- (yeah i threw in a fourth) catching up with someone you haven't caught up with in aaaaaaaaaages.
and i'm done.
kate out

thankyou for what now?

i normally on't have a probably with what is said at church, but tonight something jumped out at me, and i don't know why it's stuck with me so much, but here it is:
when a member of the congregation got up to lead prayer, she thanked God that we live in a country devoid of war, poverty or religious persecution, and i just stopped and thought, sorry?
how many australian soldiers are currently fighting overseas?
how many people are out on the streets, stealing or beggin for their next meal?
how many people do you know who have made a degrading comment about muslims or jews or hare krishnas or whatever, even if it is a joke?
now i know that we don't have wars being fought on australian soil, that we don't have slums instead of cities and people aren't killed in the street for their beliefs - but just because it isn't as bad here as it is in other countries doesn't mean we're without it. australians are dying fighting other people's battles. australians are homeless. and although i don't know anyone who has died or been physically injured for their beliefs, i know plenty who have been judged, isolated and persecuted.
we are a lucky country. but we're not perfect.

so much chocolate...

The need for comfort food is quite distressing to me at the moment. in the last 36 hours i have most likely consumed more chocololate, diet coke and mocha frappucinos than i normally would in a week. no joke. and although it is somewhat comforting (hence being known as "comfort food"), i honestly think i would prefer to be one of those people who, when racked with feelings of pain/guilt/sorrow/whatever, could not possibly eat a bite. i think it would be better for all involved.
cos at the end of the day, after that much sugar and caffeine and general chocolatey goodness...
it still sucks.
