Two Posts in an hour... yikes.
but i'm thinking about movies. (shocking, i know.) what is it about 80s chick flicks that we love so much? i can't pin it down. i'm currently sitting watching steel magnolias with my sister. em has been watching this movie for 15 years and still loves it. i've loved it since i first saw it when i was about 12. but i couldn't for the life of me give a specific reason. yes the cast is good, the story is good, and as my sister is currently pointing out there are lots of good quotes ("he's so confused he doesn't know whether to scratch his watch or wind his butt") . but that's true for so many movies, and they just don't have the same effect.
but then you look at something like dirty dancing - cheesy as hell, and the story isn't exactly award winning material, but i am yet to find a girl who doesn't get all excited whenver "the time of my life" is playing somewhere - heck, alex made us watch it on the bus on the way to queensland.
even a couple of weeks ago i was sitting round the corner at walshy's and me and sabrina made the boys watch st. elmo's fire, which again isn't a fantastically inspiring movie. but i'll be stuffed if i don't want to sit down and watch it!
...the mystery of 80s movies...
...got me stumped...
sleep is good. i might try and get some.

it is a great movie because of 3 things!
1. shirley mclaine is damn funny
2. julia roberts gets killed off (i'm sorry, i just don't like her movies - with the exception of pretty woman of course)
3. the sappy answer, it's a story of friendship, of a group of women sticking by each other through absolutely everything. gives you that warm fuzzy feeling.
